Our Strategic Planning efforts are well underway. To help inform our planning process, we collected perception data from our parents, community members, students, staff, and Winnetka District 36 graduates attending New Trier High School. The data was collected through surveys and focus groups. This perception data, along with student performance metrics, was reviewed by our Strategic Planning Development Team members, discussed with staff in a District staff meeting and discussed with community members in a Community Forum. Additional input was gathered from community members in focus groups. The Development Team further discussed and used the data at meetings on December 1, 2009 and January 22, 2010.
The January 22 meeting produced a preliminary Strategic Vision and set of District Goals and Priorities which were presented to the School Board on January 26, 2010. Next, the District will solicit input from the community on the priorities and strategic vision developed through our planning process. There will be a wide array of opportunities for community members to share their perspectives. During this next round of gathering perception data, the Development Team will continue to meet and make adjustments to the plan to incorporate feedback from all community groups. The iterative nature of this planning process should ensure greater ownership of the plan throughout our community. Once the Strategic Vision and priorities are approved by our School Board, our internal Planning Team will develop strategies and action plans to carry out the identified goals.
It is important to recognize that our District is not waiting for completion of the planning process to focus on areas in need of updating or improvement. We have several initiatives in the areas of curriculum, instruction assessment, and communication, as well as District goals related specifically to differentiated instruction and teacher evaluation. Our extensive work in these areas is productive and ongoing.
